Bangladesh claimed their first-ever Test victory over Pakistan in the opening match of the two-game series in Rawalpindi. This win marked Bangladesh's 20th overall in Test cricket and their seventh on foreign soil. With this defeat, Pakistan became the ninth team to lose to Bangladesh in Tests. Bangladesh also became the ninth nation to defeat Pakistan at home and only the fifth to win a Test in Rawalpindi. The Bangladesh men's national cricket team, known as The Tigers, holds the record for the most consecutive losses in Tests (21, from 2001 to 2004) and ODIs (23, from 1999 to 2002). After becoming a Full Member, they waited until 2004 for their first ODI win since the 1999 World Cup, defeating Zimbabwe.
