India made history on Sunday as they defeated New Zealand by 96 runs in the final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. The match was held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad where India displayed a dominant performance. India scored 255/5 in 20 overs while batting first. This has become the highest score in T20 World Cup history. Indian batters looked attacking from the beginning and continued the flow of runs throughout the innings. New Zealand failed to get going in the chase and lost wickets at regular intervals. They were all out for 159 in 19 overs, giving India an easy victory. India became the first team in history to win back-to-back T20 World Cups. This is India's third T20 World Cup trophy. They found success again in the T20 World Cup as they clinched the title in 2012 and 2016 becoming the first ever team to win back to back T20 World Cups.
