BBL15 is set to be another season for young stars to rise and shine. Last season saw players like Mitchell Owen and Cooper Connolly become household names after a stellar season of performances. This season too has a number of rising stars who look all set to raise their game once an opportunity comes knocking. These players have promised a lot in domestic cricket, club competitions, and youth tournaments, and are now waiting for their moment in the Big Bash League. Here is a full breakdown of each BBL team's possible breakout star during the 2025 season. BBL 2025-26: Rising Stars to Watch from Every Team Brisbane Heat - Oliver Patterson π’ BBL 2025-26 Player Signing Alert Brisbane Heat have signed 19-year-old, left-arm speedster Oli Patterson for the upcoming season. They've now completed their 18 member squad.#BBL15 pic.twitter.com/1byfjIUU9T — T20 Franchise Rosters (Men) (@t20tracker) October 15, 2025 Brisbane Heat signed young left-arm quick Oliver Patterson after he impressed everyone in the Queensland T20 Max competition. The 19-year-old took 15 wickets at an average of 9.73 and earned a spot in the Team of the Year. The strong showings by him forced the Heat to extend a one-year contract to their 18th player. Patterson hails from Sydney and played for Eastern Suburbs before heading north, where he quickly showed his standout skills. His whippy action, strong swing, and natural pace present a threat with the new ball. With Spencer Johnson and Callum Vidler injured, Patterson may get an opportunity this season in the Heat bowling attack. See the moment our man Liam Scott brought up his maiden Sheffield Shield hundred! πΊ Watch live: Kayo Sports | https://t.co/bv8GWfIKe5 pic.twitter.com/Ksi5QEvn4o — South Australia Cricket Teams (@SACricketTeams) December 6, 2025 Liam Scott has been a regular for South Australia in the Sheffield Shield, but he has very little experience in T20 cricket. He has played just nine matches in the format over three seasons. Despite such minimal opportunities, Scott has already proven he can come good under pressure and was an integral part of South Australia's Shield title win last season, which ended a 29-year-long drought. Scott might play a big role for the Strikers this season as they had a rather disappointing BBL14 campaign, where they won only three games. The batting order needs more depth, which Scott can provide in addition to bowling useful overs when required. His all-round skills make him a good option in a squad which is desperately in need of flexibility. So far, Scott has managed only two wickets in T20 cricket and averages over 60 with the ball. With more responsibility, those numbers can improve in no time. His batting has looked much more promising, though, averaging over 40 in five innings last season and a healthy strike rate of 155.35, including one fifty. Given more chances in BBL15, Scott could turn into a key player for Adelaide. Hobart Hurricanes - Marcus Bean MR BEAN!With just the second ball of his BBL career, Marcus Bean picks up Nathan McSweeney. #BBL14 pic.twitter.com/8mSe72ZqNP — KFC Big Bash League (@BBL) January 16, 2025 Standing at a massive 210 centimeters, Marcus Bean is the tallest player in the Big Bash and definitely has the potential to trouble batters with his bounce. He was found playing for Northern Suburbs in Queensland Premier Cricket. The Hurricanes wasted no time in getting him into their system last season. He played in two BBL games during the title-winning run. Having shifted to Tasmania on a two-year deal, Bean has worked closely with both Hurricanes and Tigers programs. He impressed during the T20 Max tournament and the Hurricanes management sees the long-term potential in him. He may not start in the first-choice XI but will get chances throughout the season, especially on bouncy pitches. Bean releases the ball from a height of more than 2.6 meters, which makes him very hard to face. The 23-year-old played two games for Brisbane Heat in BBL14 but has improved a lot since then. He has played five First Class games for Queensland and the pick of the bowlers in a Cricket Australia XI match, he took 4/72. The main reason the Stars wanted him is that Whitney can swing the new ball. He may not start every match, for Haris Rauf and Tom Curran are likely to lead the attack, but he will be used whenever the Stars want early wickets. His discipline and consistent line-and-length make him ideal for powerplay overs. Melbourne Renegades - Oliver Peake Congrats to @APS_Sport Rep & @GeelongGrammar Alumni Oliver Peake (OGG2024) on re-signing with the @RenegadesBBL for #BBL15! πͺπͺWell done Ollie & all the best for the @BBL season! ππ#apssport #APS #apscricket #schoolsport #apsalumni pic.twitter.com/qtuhmpdemg — APS Sport (@APS_Sport) June 30, 2025 Oliver Peake is one of the most talked-about young batters in Victoria. Still only 19, he has played nine First Class games and boasts an excellent reputation among coaches. He made his BBL debut as a replacement player last season and earned a full-time deal after it. Peake was also part of the Australia Under-19 World Cup-winning team and scored an unbeaten 46 in the final. He continued to impress with a fifty in the Prime Minister’s XI match and a 92 for Australia A. His ability to play long innings and handle pressure at such a young age really makes him a standout talent. The major challenge for Peake will be to fit into the Renegades lineup, which already boasts Mohammad Rizwan and a few experienced batters. Still, one batting spot remains open for the young gunner, and Peake will compete for it with Harry Dixon. If he gets adequate opportunities, Peake has the talent for making a strong impression in BBL15. This is especially so as a top-order spot may open up if Josh Inglis is away for national duties during the Ashes. Fanning is known for his ability to find boundaries and rotate strike. He has been in good touch when it comes to List A cricket with scores of 75 and 66. The Scorchers often bank on their stable batting at the top, and Fanning can offer just that. He has 102 runs in his career thus far, with a high score of 41, but he is yet to convert starts into big innings. BBL15 gives him the opportunity to do so. He will be fighting for his spot with Nick Hobson, but recent form makes him a strong breakout candidate for Perth this season. Sydney Thunder - Aidan O'Connor π’ BBL 2025-26 Player Signing Alert 19-year-old Tasmanian allrounder Aidan O’Connor has been signed by the Sydney Thunder.#BBL15 pic.twitter.com/atNZEVsetO — T20 Franchise Rosters (Men) (@t20tracker) October 13, 2025 Aidan O’Connor is one of the brightest young all-rounders on the circuit in Australia. This talented 19-year-old from Tasmania has already started playing for Australia’s national Under-19 team, which won the 2024 World Cup. He has impressed with both bat and ball in his early First Class games and scored 53 on debut. He is highly rated by Thunder coach Trevor Bayliss and general manager Trent Copeland. Sydney Sixers - Lachlan Shaw First full BBL contract β After making his debut as a local replacement player last summer, Lachlan Shaw returns to the @SixersBBL for #BBL15 πͺ pic.twitter.com/1pPbhdUl18 — KFC Big Bash League (@BBL) September 19, 2025 Lachlan Shaw in and out of the NSW squad is starting to show his true ability. The wicketkeeper-batter played seven games for the Sixers in BBL14. He scored 73 runs with a best of 33*, but could not make a big impact. That might change this season with his recent form in domestic cricket. Shaw has reached the scores of 60, 68, 44, 53 and 30* in the last few games for NSW. In First Class cricket, his average is 55.5 in three games. He also smashed 184 in NSW Premier Cricket and another 75 off 32 balls in the Kingsgrove T20 competition. It showcases his rising maturity and confidence. He may not start every game, but he will get the chances to replace top-order players or play as a finisher. Shaw has the look and feel of someone ready to make BBL15 his breakout year.
