Pakistan cricket team may undergo significant changes following the Champions Trophy 2025. There are certain players who are not performing to their best. The team requires new blood in order to remain strong. They will be omitted from the ODI team if they do not improve. Their recent games, fitness level, and general performance for the team will be assessed by the selectors before they decide. We shall discuss five Pakistani cricketers here who can potentially lose their position in the ODI side following the 2025 Champions Trophy. Babar Azam Image Source: Getty Images Once considered Pakistan's most consistent batter, Babar Azam has seen his form and intent deteriorate of late. Having relinquished captaincy, Babar appears to have lost his desire to take apart opposition bowlers. His fitness has also been a concern, as he has gained visible weight, losing his agility and stroke-making skills. Babar has appeared in five ODIs in 2025 and has scored only 149 runs. What is even more concerning is that 64 of the runs were scored in one innings alone, meaning that he has scored only 85 runs in the remaining four games combined. This inconsistency and lack of contribution seriously question his spot in the team. A cricketer of his experience and caliber must be playing from the front, yet he has become a middle-order liability. He was given the responsibility of captaincy after Babar's resignation, but his captaincy has been less than impressive. Rizwan has failed to make effective decisions, particularly in critical situations of the game. His failure to cope with pressure situations has been witnessed in the ICC Champions Trophy matches. As a batsman, Rizwan has not been able to offer stability when the team has needed him the most. Walking in after two early wickets, he has been culpable of playing too many dot balls, eventually putting pressure on the lower middle order. Further, his slow rate in the middle overs has been damaging Pakistan's prospects of establishing competitive totals. His inability to handle bowling alterations properly has further revealed his frailties as a captain. Rizwan, at best, is a pretty ordinary captain and has done little to deserve his spot in the playing XI. Haris Rauf Image Source: Getty Images Haris Rauf was once regarded as Pakistan’s go-to strike bowler in white-ball cricket, but his recent performances have painted a different picture. He has been consistently leaking runs without picking up crucial wickets, making him a major liability in the bowling attack. In 2024, Rauf played eight ODIs and picked up 13 wickets. However, a closer look at his stats reveals that five of those wickets came in a single match, meaning he was largely ineffective in the other games. In 2025, his performances have worsened—he has played three ODIs and taken only three wickets while conceding runs at an alarming economy of 7.00. A fast bowler’s primary role is to either take wickets or contain the flow of runs, and Haris has failed to do both. With younger, more disciplined bowlers available, it is difficult to justify his continued presence in the squad. Tayyab Tahir Image Source: Asian Cricket Council Tayyab Tahir was recruited into the side as part of Pakistan's "new regime," but he has underperformed. At the age of 31, he was supposed to bring stability to the middle order through his experience, but he has been a huge disappointment in that regard. Tayyab has scored 134 runs from eight ODIs without a fifty or a hundred to his name. This is a disturbing statistic for a batsman who was supposed to strengthen the batting order. His non-adaptability and failure to perform in pressure situations render him an undeserving member of the ODI team. Pakistan has enough young and talented batters in waiting, and it is time the selectors drop the likes of underperforming Tayyab Tahir. Statistically, he has played alright, but his attitude and inner turmoil have hit team morale really hard. He is said not to be in good terms with Babar Azam, and with Rizwan serving as a middleman, this internal divide all this while has surely taken its toll on Pakistan's overall performance. Afridi’s inconsistency is another pressing concern. While he has produced moments of brilliance, his inability to maintain rhythm across tournaments has hurt the team. A player of his caliber should be spearheading the bowling attack with authority, but instead, his unpredictable form makes him a questionable choice.
