New Zealand continued their winning spree in the tri-series to three games as they defeated South Africa by seven wickets in match No. 5 at the Harare Sports Club in Harare on Tuesday, July 22. Having won the toss, Mitchell Santner did not delay in deciding to bowl first. There was plenty of movement available for the New Zealand seamers, and they took advantage of that. Rassie van der Dussen, promoted to open the innings for Lhuan-dre Pretorius, tossed away his wicket in the third over. Reeza Hendricks and Rubin Hermann found it difficult to cope with the good bowling conditions as their stand produced only 20 runs off 27 deliveries. Starting at 34/1 in the seventh over, South Africa was reduced to 57/4 in the 11th. Hendricks fell for 41 after facing 37 deliveries. Down the order, there was a contribution of an unblemished 15-ball 23 by George Linde, and the Proteas closed on 134/8. Two wickets each fell to Adam Milne, Santner, and Jacob Duffy. The 22-year-old, though, failed to grasp the regulation opportunity. Seifert didn't look back once after this lifeline as he went on to take the South African bowlers to the cleaners. Devon Conway attempted to shatter the shackles but lost his wicket in the last over of powerplay. Rachin Ravindra also fell in the next over, but the Kiwis were still sailing smoothly in the run-chase. Mark Chapman was Senuran Muthsamy's second victim of the day. Seifert, meanwhile, recorded his 11th T20I half-century. Daryl Mitchell (20*) wrapped up proceedings against Seifert, who was left unbeaten on 66 off 48 deliveries. New Zealand knocked off the runs in 15.5 overs. Muthusamy was South Africa's best bowler as he took two wickets in four overs, giving away 24 runs. The wicketkeeper-batter was awarded Player of the Match for his match-winning innings.
