Afghanistan took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe as the Blue Tigers defeated the Chevrons by seven wickets in another one-sided contest at the Harare Sports Club on Friday, October 31. Sikandar Raza, who called the toss in what was a must-win clash for the home side, chose to bat first. Brian Bennett and Dion Myers batted with caution as the two added a 22-run opening partnership. However, they fell in successive overs to Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Fareed Ahmad, respectively. The experienced Brendan Taylor made three runs in his follow-up innings to the duck in the first match, getting dismissed again by Mujeeb. Raza tried to play anchor but didn't get much support from the other batters. Tony Munyonga did hit three boundaries but couldn't convert his start into a big score. The likes of Ryan Burl, Tashinga Musekiwa and Brad Evans also failed to cash in after spending some time in the middle. Raza was dismissed in the 17th over for a 32-ball 37. Musekiwa also departed in the same over. Brad Evans hit a couple of boundaries towards the back-end of the innings before Zimbabwe were bowled out for 125 in 19.3 overs. Afghan skipper Rashid Khan was the pick of the bowlers, bagging three wickets in as many overs, giving away just nine runs. But Afghanistan had almost knocked down half the runs they required to seal the game. Darwish Rasooli gave Ibrahim Zadran good support as the duo took the tourists towards the target with some sedate cricket. After Rasooli fell to a 20-ball 17, Azmatullah Omarzai helped Afghanistan get home in a canter. The all-rounder smacked 25 off just 13 deliveries, remaining unbeaten with Zadran, who made a 51-ball 57*. This was the latter's second consecutive fifty in the series. Afghanistan won with two overs to spare.
