It is only a day since Season 18 of the IPL finished, and already the off-season whispers have started. Some franchises are expected to see changes in both their coaching staff and team personnel ahead of the next season, with the most significant overhaul likely to occur in the Lucknow Super Giants camp. A seventh position, with only six victories from 14 matches, would not have pleased the franchise management. Speculations are now being done about the future of some of the key members in the Lucknow Super Giants' coaching team, which is presently working under Zaheer Khan's mentorship. Zaheer himself is in the soup. It is understood that when Zaheer was brought in as a mentor prior to last year's auction, he was hired on a one-year contract. That has to be renewed and sources believe it will come as a shock if indeed he is continued. There is no way of knowing how well they worked together during the season, but there seems to be some discontentment in the team and the management. The rumour at this point is that the focus is on Zaheer rather than Langer. LSG franchisee for the past two seasons, has failed to qualify for the play-offs. While Zaheer cannot be held responsible for the 2024 season, the management is not satisfied with how the team performed this season. Zaheer is reported to have enjoyed great professional camaraderie with skipper Rishabh Pant, who was however a great disappointment with the bat. Pant scored 269 runs off 14 matches, with a century and half-century, but did not make any real contributions with bat in hand in the other 12 games. While the team mentor cannot be blamed for the captain's dismal performance, it was Zaheer who set the vision and direction for the team. He and Pant had already discussed playing aggressive cricket this season. Whatever the planned strategy, it definitely did not deliver anticipated outcomes.
