Indian legspinner Yuzvendra Chahal has withdrawn from the rest of the County Championship season with Northamptonshire. The 35-year-old, who was signed on a multi-format deal, will head back to India for personal reasons, ending what has been an up-and-down campaign in England this season. Chahal, who played for Northants for the second year running, featured in three Division Two Championship games in 2025 and took 12 wickets at 46.00 average. His best moment came against Derbyshire in late July, where he took 6 for 118 – his career-best figures in the competition – to complete the match with eight wickets. In the One-Day Cup, though, his returns slowed. Following six wickets in his opening three games, he returned wicketless in the subsequent three, finishing on an average of 50.50 and an economy of 5.41. It was Chahal's second successive Northamptonshire stint following last year's successful debut when he registered 21 wickets at a remarkable average of 21.10, featuring two five-wicket returns. This season, though, did not follow with equal consistency. Read aso: Who was Aseem Saeed? A Hero with thousand dollars from a loosing side Northants themselves had a tough summer, ending up at the foot of their One-Day Cup group and second-bottom in Division Two with just two victories from 11 matches. They will play their remaining three matches against Glamorgan, Gloucestershire and Leicestershire without Chahal's expertise. Yuzvendra Chahal's season with Northamptonshire in the 2025 County Championship has already been brought to a premature conclusion as he flew back home owing to personal grounds. Though he displayed flashes of excellence, particularly with his career-best 6/118 against Derbyshire, the season as a whole did not come close to the consistency of his debut season at Northants. His poor form in the One-Day Cup, coupled with the poor run by the team in all formats, made for a difficult season. While Northants complete their remaining fixtures without him, Chahal will now look to future prospects and concentrate on getting his rhythm back for future cricketing engagements.
