Calling Suryakumar Yadav the best batter of MI in IPL 2025 would be an understatement. On Sunday in Ahmedabad for Qualifier 2 against PBKS, the T20I captain of India scored 44 runs off 26 balls, including four boundaries and three sixes. However, the speedy innings wasn't the only highlight. In the process of recording that innings, Surya etched his name into the record books as the first MI player to score more than 700 runs in a single IPL season. This year, he has scored 717 runs from 16 matches with five half-centuries, with an average of 65 and a strike rate of 167. He is currently second in the Orange Cap race behind GT's Sai Sudharsan, who has 759 runs. 16th successive 25+ score! ππ»700+ runs for #MI this season! πͺπ»Mr.Consistent! ππ»Will #SKY power #Mumbai to a big total and take them into the #IPLFinal? πLIVE NOW π https://t.co/ojL4yAtejV #IPLPlayoffs ππ» #Qualifier2 | #PBKSvMI on Star Sports Network & JioHotstar… pic.twitter.com/McZnLyyqxd — Star Sports (@StarSportsIndia) June 1, 2025 The highest runs in a single IPL Edition still belong to Virat Kohli, pushing 973 runs in 2016, whereas Surya has set a new record by scoring 25+ runs for 16 consecutive matches in IPL 2025-breaks Shubman Gill's earlier record of 13 in 2023. In 13 innings against Chahal, Surya has scored only 113 runs from 88 balls, with 35 dot ones. That puts his average at 29 and strike rate at 131 against the spinner. Quite interestingly, Chahal was coming back into action after healing from a wrist injury. The last game he played was on May 18 against RR.
