The echo of Edgbaston 2022 still lingers. Rishabh Pant’s name resurfaced at the pre-match press conference ahead of the second Test, and Ben Stokes couldn’t help but crack a smile. The England captain admitted, “Even though he's my opposition, I absolutely love watching Rishabh play cricket. I love the way he takes it on in all formats of the game.” Pant’s 146 off 111 balls two years ago is still fresh in English minds. Last week, he hurt them again with twin centuries in the first Test. But instead of frustration, Stokes showed admiration. He said, “He’s got a bit of a stick in his time. But when you let that type of talent be free, the sort of thing that happened last week can happen.” Even while praising Pant, Stokes made it clear that England isn’t overlooking him. He added, “Credit to him for getting two hundreds in the game. But we know we're going to get our chances with the way that Rishabh plays. On a different day, it could have looked a little bit different if one of those had gone straight up and to hand.” Read also: Why Do England and Australia Announce Playing XI Early? Moeen Ali, Flintoff guide England nets; Bashir in focus England’s preparation at Headingley saw two familiar faces at training. Moeen Ali and Andrew Flintoff visited the team ahead of the second Test. While Flintoff spent time with pacer Jofra Archer, Moeen worked closely with young off-spinner Shoaib Bashir. The offie is expected to play a bigger role with the pitch likely to favour spin. Moeen, who has troubled India before, especially in 2014 and 2018, was seen offering technical guidance to Bashir on Monday. Stokes said, “It’s been a constant thing with us, getting former England players and letting the players talk to them.” Bashir, who met Moeen for the first time during the session, appeared excited. He was visibly thrilled to spend time with the experienced spinner. England believes that involving former players in the dressing room to guide current squad members can be highly beneficial, especially when advice is tailored to individual needs.
