Rajat Patidar has opened up about the early nerves he felt after being appointed Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain for IPL 2025 and how a few words from Virat Kohli helped him instantly feel at ease. Speaking to RCB in an official interview, Patidar recalled the moment Kohli reassured him during the Unbox event. “I was completely blank, didn't know what to do. While giving it, he said, 'You deserve it. You earned it. So I felt a little bit like okay. When he said that to me, I became normal in that situation.” Patidar, who has been one of RCB’s most consistent performers since his debut, said he continues to learn from Kohli on and off the field. “I think two things will always be special for me. Whenever he bats, I learn as much as I can from him. For me, these are the learning. Now I got the captaincy and he is with me. I can learn from him because of the amount of experience and ideas he has, no one has.” Rajat reflects on his memorable moment with Virat at #RCBUnbox, shares the perks of captaincy, the thrill of winning in Chennai, and much more, on… pic.twitter.com/xgkfgWe2GQ — Royal Challengers Bengaluru (@RCBTweets) May 14, 2025 Win over CSK gave me confidence as a captain: Patidar RCB are currently second on the IPL 2025 points table, with eight wins in eleven games. One of the major highlights of their season so far was their rare win at Chepauk against Chennai Super Kings, a venue where visiting teams have often struggled. Because the conditions usually help them a lot. But the contributions from everyone in the team it was nice to see. As a captain, it gives me confidence to go there and win matches. It is the first year for me, and the way it started boosts me a lot as a captain.” RCB’s next match is against Kolkata Knight Riders on May 17 as IPL resumes after being suspended for a week.
