It was a horrifying experience for Shubman Gill, captain of Team India, when he was caught in an incident on the last session of Day 1 of the second Test against West Indies at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi. The incident took place at the fifth ball of the 85th over when Yashasvi Jaiswal flicked a delivery from Anderson Phillip for a quick single toward mid-wicket. Gill did reach the striker's end with an attempt at ducking out of the way of a misguided throw, as West Indies wicketkeeper Tevin Imlach rushed up to grab the ball. Unfortunately, the two collided with each other mid move and hit awkwardly, deeply hurting fans and teammates alike. Jaiswal's Gesture Brings Smile After Collision The match was then paused for a few minutes while they both received medical attention from their physios. It was all a little tense, particularly with the thoughts of an injury to the head or possible concussion. However, Yashasvi Jaiswal managed to break the ice with a playful gesture - he showed two fingers at Gill and teasingly asked him 'Yeh Kitne Finger Hai?' as if he were doing a concussion test. The game resumed shortly afterwards, confirming that there were no serious injuries. Huge relief to Indian supporters and also the dressing-room staff. Earlier in the day, the young opener made history by scoring a seventh Test century before the age of 24, thereby joining Cook and Williamson as one of the few Test players to hit at least seven tons so young. He also became the only Indian to score 150 or more five times before 24, proving that he occupies an elite niche in scoring and is hungry to score big. Meanwhile, Sai Sudharsan, Gill's opening partner at Gujarat Titans, had a very good outing as well. The left-hander scored 87 runs and affirmed himself as India's future No. 3 batter in Test cricket. His solid stand with Jaiswal consolidated India's strong position on the opening day. At the end of Day 1's play, India are at 318-2, with Jaiswal batting at 173* and Gill at 20*. The duo will aim to extend their innings on Day 2 and post a mammoth total which would give them the liberty to enforce the follow-on if WI falls short early in the first innings.
