When it was finally beginning to fall into place for the Rajasthan Royals (RR), Sanju Samson's boys suddenly found themselves perched on a bumpy road as the Gujarat Titans (GT) outsmarted them in the 23rd match of IPL 2025. After two opening losses, RR got up on their feet with two wins; however, a sweeping defeat pulled the rug from under their feet once again. None of the other RR bowlers were up to it besides Jofra Archer. Maheesh Theekshana took two wickets for 54 runs in four overs, while Tushar Deshpande had almost the same figures. But 217 was not an unreachable target. This season, three times teams had chased down more than 200 runs. Meaning RR had a great chance. But only Shimron Hetmyer stood up to a very tight game, and RR was 58 runs sorely dissatisfied. Such heavy defeats can cut down seriously on any chances they had for playoffs. The net run rate usually becomes vital in a very close IPL tournament to take the tiebreakers for qualification. Good rebuilding for Jos after injury and somewhat out of touch in IPL 2025. He made a worthy 41 runs from 28 balls. However, the gravest concern lies with Yashasvi Jaiswal. After two strong seasons in 2023 and 2024, he has lost all his rhythm this year. It is indeed not only about the relatively low scores but also about his strike rate, which certainly is a cause for concern. A perfect example- he could collect only 6 runs from 7 deliveries against GT, wasting a few crucial deliveries in the process. He has been unable to leave an impact, particularly against the powerplay, where runs need to be scored quickly. Jaiswal seems to have gone out of sync. But while the captain is taking his time to regain form, Jaiswal is trying to smash everything from the get-go. This probably worked for him in the earlier days. Sadly, at present, this doesn't seem to help him. RR will wish to have him find his form again rather quickly before everything slips completely away.
