Australia has announced their playing XI for the World Test Championship final against South Africa starting today at England's iconic Lord's Cricket Stadium. Notably, the pacer Scott Boland and the young batting sensation Sam Konstas have been a major miss in the squad. Both of them have had a stellar outing against India, especially Konstas, who caught attention for his antics and verbal spat with Jasprit Bumrah. In the pre-match press conference, the Australian captain spoke about their exclusion. Boland who is normally treated as a substitute for Hazlewood, has been benched again with Hazlewood coming back. While Cummins feels that it is great to rotate the fast bowlers accordingly in order to extend their longevity, he feels that this isn't the end of Boland's career. Pat said, “There are some guys where you genuinely say you know you've done nothing wrong, don't change a thing. And Scottie's is just really unfortunate to miss out. Joshie Hazel comes back in, we know how good he is, but I think the message to Scottie is there's a lot of Test cricket coming up in the next couple of years and just because you're mid-30s doesn't mean, you know, you're missing this test and that's one test off your career." The 36-year-old Boland, despite debuting in 2021 played just 13 Tests and has 56 wickets with a remarkable economy of 2.77. But, looking at his age, he has has a lot of time. Pat said, "It's something the selectors are always weighing up (On Konstas getting ample opportunities). Realistically, he's really young and has a long career ahead of him. So hopefully, even if he's not playing, being in the squad is a learning opportunity. At the same time, you've got guys like Bo Webster who are just starting their Test careers." With Marnus Labuschagne back in the squad, Konstas got sidelined. Speaking about Cameron Green returning to the squad, Pat added that Josh Inglis still have chances and it is always a good problem to have with several players close to Test opportunities.
