The 40-year-old Bengal cricketer took to Twitter to announce his retirement. In his post, Wriddhiman Saha mentioned that the ongoing Ranji Trophy season would be the last season of his career. The wicketkeeper-batsman, who celebrated his 40th birthday last month, has played 40 Test matches and 9 ODIs for India. Following MS Dhoni’s retirement, he was India’s preferred keeper-batter in red-ball cricket for an extended period. Although he contributed a few vital innings during that series, the team’s new management, led by head coach Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma, strategically decided to move forward without Saha, prioritizing KS Bharat as a backup for Rishabh Pant. Saha in his retirement post said: “After a cherished journey in cricket, this season will be my last. I am honoured to represent Bengal one final time, playing only in the Ranji Trophy before I retire,” Saha wrote on X, promising to make his last season for Bengal a memorable one. “Thank you to everyone who has been part of this incredible ride, your support has meant the world. However, his comeback in Bengal's opening Elite Group C match against Uttar Pradesh didn’t go as planned, as he was dismissed for a six-ball duck. In Test cricket, Saha has an average of 29.41, while he boasts an impressive 42 average in first-class matches, amassing over 7,000 runs with 14 centuries and 43 fifties across 138 games. Among his notable achievements in Tests, he scored three centuries against teams like the West Indies, Bangladesh, and Australia during his 40-match career for India.
