The WPL 2025 will commence from 21st February. It is going to be the third edition of the franchise league, with five teams playing in it, including Mumbai Indians Women (MI-W), Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women (RCB-W), Delhi Capital Women (DC-W), Gujarat Giants (GG-W), and UP Warriorz (UPW), who will vie to win this highly coveted silverware. The first two seasons of WPL received great reviews, and got the people excited about what will follow in the upcoming season as well. The 2023 edition was hosted by Mumbai and Navi Mumbai while the second season went to Bengaluru and New Delhi. But this time, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has a four-venue plan for the next season. The board vice president Rajeev Shukla confirmed the development regarding the third edition of the most-valued women's T20 tournament on Sunday, January 12. Here is what Rajeev Shukla was reported as saying by Sportstar “It will be played across four venues. The Mumbai leg will be played at Brabourne Stadium,” This year's edition of the tournament will take place in four venues: Mumbai's Brabourne Stadium, Bengaluru's M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Vadodara's newly-built Kotambi Stadium, and the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana cricket Stadium in Lucknow. Notably, this is the most recent cricket ground in Vadodara and has known of late by hosting the Indian Women's ODI series against the West Indies. The same ground hosts the knockout stages of the current season of Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25. Harmanpreet Kaur-led side defeated Delhi by seven wickets to take home the honor of being the first-ever winner of the multi-team tournament. Meg Lanning, the captain of the runners-up, received the Orange Cap, while from the winning team, Hayley Matthews took away the Purple Cap for the maiden edition. After a poor campaign in 2023, RCB Women surprised everyone by coming back in the successive season of the tournament. Under the star cricketer Smriti Mandhana, the team won the finale and thus took home the trophy. Again, it was Lanning and Co. on the wrong side of the coin. Ellyse Perry grabbed the Orange Cap, while off-spinner Shreyanka Patil grabbed the Purple Cap. RCB will now be defending their title.
