The World Test Championship (WTC) points table for the 2023-2025 cycle is experiencing rapid shuffles as teams are having tough fights for the final. After India's 0-3 loss against New Zealand in the home Test series, India sealed an emphatic win against Australia at Perth, ensuring their life in the WTC run. However, there are certain conditions for India to reach the final, having few in their own hands while few on the performance of other teams. Presently, there are two important Test series going on, in different parts, that are equally important from an Indian perspective. Right now, England is playing a three-match away test series against New Zealand. England has already won the first one, securing a commanding eight-wicket victory over New Zealand at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch, taking a 1-0 lead. Courtesy to debutant Jacob Bethell's half-century in the fourth inning. The second Test will be played on December 6 at Wellington. The other important series is the one between South Africa and Sri Lanka. South Africa has already taken a 1-0 lead in the two-match Test series. The Proteas won the first one by 233 runs and will play the second Test at St George's Park, Gqeberha, on December 5. India has lost 5 Test matches and drawn one of them. Topping the World Test Championship Ranking, the team has 110 points and a point percentage (PCT) of 61.110. Australia dropped to the third spot with 64 points and PCT 57.690, while South Africa climbed to the second spot with 64 points but PCT 59.260. Sri Lanka, now fifth with 50%, is aiming for redemption in the second Test. However, England, at sixth position with a win percentage of 43.75, remains out of contention for their first WTC final. With this, India needs a series victory with a 5-0, 4-0, or 3-0 margin against the Aussies for a direct qualification to the WTC final. However, if India manages a 3-1 series victory, they will need South Africa to lose the second Test against Sri Lanka to secure their spot. Similarly, a 3-2 series win will require South Africa to lose to Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka to win at least one Test against Australia. Sri Lanka will play a two-match home Test series against Australia, with the first one starting on January 29. If the BGT ends in a 2-2 draw, India’s hopes hinge on South Africa defeating Sri Lanka 2-0 and Sri Lanka securing a Test win against Australia.
