Former Indian cricketer Diana Edulji spoke about the Indian women's cricket team with the Women's T20 World Cup round the corner. The trophy arrived at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and on October 3 there would be ten teams who will compete for it. Highlighting the importance of openers Shefali Verma and Smrirti Mandhana, Edulji stated: "The biggest bets are the two openers, Shefali and Smriti. They have to put a price on their wicket. The World Cup is fully dependent on them." Diana Edulji hopes this team can bring home the trophy, similar to what the men's team has done in the past. She went on to say that the World Cup is wide open and that India had a very good chance. Edulji also said that Bangladesh looks strong, which they proved in the Asia Cup. She said India should focus on their strengths. While speaking to ANI, she said: "Bangladesh had an excellent Asia Cup campaign. We should play according to our strengths. It doesn't matter that Australia has won six World Cups, they can lose too. We have to give our 100%." She spoke highly of India's spin bowlers, more so about Deepti Sharma, who she said has been in great form since 2017. She also spoke very highly of Shreyanka Patil as a promising talent. She, however said that the pace bowling needs to be looked into and Renuka Singh is an important player. She added: "Our strength is our spinners, Deepti Sharma has been in form since 2017, she will be important for us in the final overs. We also have Shreyanka Patil, so, we have plenty of spinners. We have got more than 5-6 bowlers, so there should not be any problem." Edulji further said that teams such as South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, England, Australia, and New Zealand are good and compete well in international cricket. She further said: "This is an open world cup, South Africa looks strong, Sri Lanka's Chamari Athapaththu is in good form, Bangladesh is causing upsets everywhere, England, Australia, and New Zealand are all looking good and they are playing cricket consistently." To conclude, Edulji said: "The support staffs might have learnt the lessons from their previous World Cups and they will hopefully not commit any further mistakes. The players are playing in Big Bash and Hundred. BCCI is giving them all the facilities." She said she was confident that the coaches of the Indian team had learnt from past mistakes and would help the team do better this time. She thanked BCCI for providing good facilities to the players and added the experience gained by the players while playing in big leagues like Big Bash and The Hundred will also come into play.
