The World Champion Deepti Sharma was honored by the Uttar Pradesh Police on Friday at the state Police Headquarters in Gomtinagar Extension. Earlier, Deepti was awarded the UP Police's DSP Post in the sports quota after returning to her state after winning the 2025 ICC Women's ODI World Cup. Rajeev Krishna, the Director General of Police, sounded proud of Deepti's achievement, saying that she not only made India proud but also brought glory to the state too. Having the senior officials in the office, DGP said, “Deepti Sharma has not only made the country proud but has also brought glory to Uttar Pradesh and the state police force. Her achievements inspire pride across the police fraternity." The DGP also emphasized how Deepti's success will inspire the state's girls to take up sports and also encouraged the children present to take sports professionally. As per the official statement, the DGP noted that India’s cricket story—from the men’s historic 1983 World Cup triumph to the women’s team toppling seven-time champions Australia—has inspired young girls across the country. The DGP further praised the state government run by Yogi Adityanath for its effort to promote sports, and learning athletes' needs for the last four years. He said, “International-level success demands discipline, hard work, and strong willpower—qualities that Deepti has demonstrated consistently." She described joining the Uttar Pradesh Police and wearing the uniform for the first time as a memorable experience. Sharma added that the recognition she received after the World Cup win brought great honour to her family, crediting their constant support, especially her elder brother Sumit. She thanked Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for introducing athlete-friendly policies. Senior officers were present at the event. Earlier in the day, Sharma met the Chief Minister, and the Cabinet later praised her contribution to India’s historic World Cup triumph.
