The England Cricket team has announced a 12-men squad for the first Ashes Test at Perth, scheduled on November 21. England announced the Ben Stokes-led squad on November 19- a squad that features the quickest of the pacers. That means Mark Wood is back in the circuit. Wood, who missed the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy due to a hamstring injury, has finally cleared his fitness Test and is back for the first Test in the Ashes. With him will company Gus Atkinson, Brydon Carse, and Jofra Archer, including the captain, Stokes himself. Australian soil is borderline partial for the pacers. To beat the Australian trio Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Scott Boland, England has buckled up with probably one of the quickest camps. Notably, all the English fast bowlers included have the caliber to touch the 90mph mark. Considering the dryness of the Perth pitch, England has decided to bring in Bashir in the mix. Perth has historically favored the great Australian spinner Nathan Lyon. He has played 5 Tests her and bagged 29 wickets. Bashir has been England’s most reliable spinner across formats for more than a year. The 22-year-old reached the 50-wicket mark in Tests earlier in May, becoming the youngest English bowler to do so. However, a fractured finger stalled his progress. Since England’s victory over India at Lord’s in July, he has not played any competitive match. His return in the warm-up fixture against the England Lions was also far from ideal, as he finished with 2 for 151 from 24 overs. Interestingly, he still remains a contender for an Ashes Test appearance, even though he is currently without a county deal after his Somerset contract expired. Squad for the Perth Test: Ben Duckett, Zak Crawley, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes (captain), Jamie Smith (wicketkeeper), Gus Atkinson, Brydon Carse, Mark Wood, Jofra Archer, and Shoaib Bashir.
