India Women made history as they defeated South Africa Women by 52 runs in the final of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 held at Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, Navi Mumbai, on Sunday, November 2, to win their first-ever World Cup title in 52 years. India batted first and managed to put up an impressive 298 runs on the board after a rain interruption of two hours without any loss in overs. Shafali Verma and Deepti Sharma were big factors in leading India to a commanding total with equal amounts of patience and power. In reply, South Africa's captain Laura Wolvaardt fought with a magnificent century; unfortunately, the effort went in vain as Deepti came up with a brilliant bowling spell, which earned her a five-wicket haul that sealed India's win. Meanwhile, Shafali was named Player of the Match for her match-defining innings, while Deepti bagged the Player of the Tournament award for her all-round excellence throughout the competition. While the exact distribution is yet to be confirmed, it is reported that each player and head coach Amol Muzumdar could get INR 2-3 crore each, with the support staff getting INR 20-30 lakh each. This victory has brought the Indian women into the cricketing history books and opened up a whole new chapter in women's cricket in India.
