It is very much possible that the Greenfield International Stadium at Karyavattom in Thiruvananthapuram will stage some matches of the forthcoming ICC Women's ODI World Cup 2025. The 13th edition of the prestigious ODI tournament will be staged in India and Sri Lanka from September 30 to November 2 next year. Initially, four matches were assigned to the M Chinnaswamy Stadium of Bengaluru. But the stadium was unpopularized after a sad stampede on June 4 near the venue resulted in the death of 11 individuals along with 50-plus injured. The tragedy occurred during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's first Indian Premier League title celebration. Yet another example of the shifting of venues from the Chinnaswamy to the Srikantadatta Narasimha Raja Wadeyar Ground came with the current instalment of the Maharaja Trophy KSCA T20 2025. This was done based on safety considerations of the venue's capacity to deal with crowds. The state-based competition is being hosted behind doors currently, with match officials the only ones permitted to observe the action live. The ground in Trivandrum is the only active international cricketing venue in the region, as the Nehru Stadium in Kochi now hosts football encounters. The last men's ODI game hosted was a match between India and Sri Lanka in January 2023. It is also the first time in more than twelve years that the tournament returns to Indian soil, having initially hosted it for the 2013 season. India Women finished last in Group A, with a lone win from three games. The Australian team are the defending tournament champions. They defeated long-time rivals England Women in the 2022 edition's final by 71 runs. Alyssa Healy won the Player of the Match and Player of the Series award for her magnificent performance.
