Former South African batter AB de Villiers believes that winning the Indian Premier League (IPL) with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) would be the perfect finishing touch to Virat Kohli's remarkable career. Kohli has spent his entire IPL career with a single franchise. RCB acquired him in the inaugural 2008 IPL auction, and he has since become an integral part of the team, playing every season. Despite his individual brilliance, the former Indian captain is still chasing his first IPL trophy. RCB has reached the final three times—in 2009, 2011, and 2016—but the title still remains out of reach. Kohli is the all-time highest run-scorer in the IPL, amassing 8,004 runs in 252 matches. His impressive record includes 55 fifties and 8 centuries, with an average of 38.67. "You can see how much it means to him. Winning the IPL with RCB would be the perfect finishing touch to his already phenomenal career," de Villiers said in an episode on JioHotstar. Kohli played a crucial role in RCB’s qualification for the playoffs last season. The team pulled off an incredible comeback, winning seven consecutive matches to secure a playoff spot. Praising Kohli's approach, de Villiers noted how the star batter played exactly as the team required. "He was outstanding last season. He played exactly the way the team needed him to. Unlike someone like Fraser McGurk for Delhi Capitals, Virat had the responsibility of holding the innings together. He deserves full credit for playing a crucial role in RCB's qualification," he said. 'Scrutiny over Virat's strike rate was ridiculous': AB de Villiers AB de Villiers also defended Kohli’s approach in the previous season. While fans and former cricketers criticized Kohli’s strike rate, de Villiers believes Kohli did exactly what the team needed. "The scrutiny over Virat's strike rate was absolutely ridiculous. He had done exactly what his team needed from him. It's about the situation. When he has someone at the other end he trusts, you see him experiment, but when that's not the case, he stays true to his nature and anchors the innings when needed." RCB will be aiming to lift their first-ever IPL trophy under the new leadership of Rajat Patidar. The team will begin their IPL 2025 campaign against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on March 22.
