The Indian Test captain, Shubman Gill, will be travelling with the Indian team, as confirmed by the Board of Cricket Control in India on November 19. Notably, Gill sustained a neck injury during India's first innings batting on day 3, against South Africa in Kolkata. He was retired hurt after he played 4 balls. He was carried out on a stretcher and was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at Kolkata's Woodland's Hospital. Even though he was released the next day, he was under the BCCI medical team's supervision at India's team hotel. Earlier there were reports that if the neck stiffness triggers, he might not board the flight today towards Guwahati. However, BCCI issued official notice saying that Shubman will be boarding the flight today. BCCI posted on its official X account, saying, "Team India captain Shubman Gill suffered a neck injury on Day 2 of the Kolkata Test against South Africa and was taken to the hospital for examination after the end of day's play. He was kept under observation and discharged the next day. Shubman has been responding well to the medical treatment provided and will travel to Guwahati with the team on 19th November, 2025." Robin Uthappa predicts However, the management has not made certain whether he will play the seond Test or not; it will depend totally on Shubman's recovery. It added, "He will continue to be monitored by the BCCI medical team and a decision on his participation in the 2nd Test will be taken accordingly." Meanwhile, there were reports that earlier said that Gill might travel to Mumbai for his medical checkup. However, it has been postponed. Well, India has already summoned the 22-year-old Niish Reddy as a substitute for Shubman Gill. Reddy was already with the squad but was released before the Kolkata Test for him to join the India A team playing an unofficial ODI series at Rajkot against South Africa A. Notably, the second Test is on November 22, with India desperate to win and draw the series.
