RCB won their inaugural IPL title by beating Punjab Kings by 6 runs in the final. Lakhs of spectators showed up to enjoy this much-awaited occasion. But the crowd went haywire. The primary causes of the tragedy were a lack of event planning and crowd control. The news of free entry tickets was posted on social media, which brought a huge crowd, but necessary security arrangements had not been done. After the stampede, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah directed the arrest of the main persons involved. They were representatives from: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) DNA Entertainment (the event organizers) Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) Several arrests have been conducted. One of them is RCB's marketing head Nikhil Sosale, who was arrested from the airport while apparently attempting to escape to Mumbai. Three members of DNA Entertainment staff were also taken into custody. A police officer had apparently issued a warning about the threat some time back, but the warning went unheeded. One eyewitness, Rolan Gomes, registered an FIR against KSCA and RCB for negligence. According to his complaint, a free ticket rush led to a crowd surge, and nobody was ready for the mess. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said that although the parade was a private occasion, cricket's image is the board's concern. He also noted that the parade for the T20 World Cup in Mumbai had been handled carefully, but the RCB one was not properly coordinated. Saikia said: “At some stage BCCI will have to do something. We cannot be a silent spectator. It was a private affair of RCB, but we at the BCCI are responsible for cricket in India, and we will try to ensure such incidents do not recur in future.” As the police investigation goes on, certain fans and experts are calling for RCB to be banned for one or two seasons at least. Although BCCI has not officially confirmed the ban as of now, if RCB is held directly responsible for the incident, tough action can be taken to protect the reputation of the league. RCB's Response and Support RCB has assured cooperation with the authorities in full. They have also stated: ā¹10 lakh compensation for families of deceased A new "RCB Cares" fund for assistance to those injured during the incident These measures notwithstanding, questions have been raised about the role and responsibilities of the team in mishandling the event.'
