With Team India making its way to Ranchi for the opening ODI against South Africa on November 30, the city is buzzing with excitement as it prepares to host an international match for the first time since February 2024. A question on many minds is whether MS Dhoni will once again welcome the Indian team to his famous Ranchi farmhouse. Over the years, Dhoni has been known to invite his teammates, whether they’re from the national squad or the Chennai Super Kings, whenever there’s an international or IPL match in his hometown. Ranchi has often been the backdrop for gatherings at Dhoni’s place, where the Indian team has come together. However, since his retirement from international cricket in 2020, it’s been a while since the former captain has hosted the national squad. Now, with Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and Dhoni all in the same city for the series opener, the buzz about Dhoni potentially hosting the team again is definitely in the air. Players who have visited in the past rave about the place. In fact, Dhoni used to frequently host Team India and later CSK players there. One of the standout moments was before an India-Australia ODI in 2019, when the entire squad enjoyed an evening at his home. Meanwhile, Kohli touched down in Ranchi on Wednesday morning and was seen making his way out of the airport. The 37-year-old had just returned from London on Tuesday after being named in India’s squad for the three-match ODI series. The last time India played in Ranchi was in 2024 during the Test series against England, but he missed that match due to the birth of his second child, Akaay. With Kohli already in town, the rest of the squad is expected to join him soon.
