The Afro-Asia Cup was an exciting cricket event that happened in the mid-2000s. It was played in 2005 and 2007 between top players throughout Asia and Africa. Players normally rivals, for example, India and Pakistan, played together in this series. The big names which came along and represented Asian XI included MS Dhoni, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble, Shahid Afridi, and Shoaib Akhtar. The other big names which have been part of this special series include South African, Zimbabwean, and Kenyan players who formed the Africa XI. They played three ODIs in 2005, with the series ending in a 1-1 draw. In 2007, after adding a T20 match, competition grew tougher, and Asia XI won all matches that year, sweeping the series 3-0 in ODIs and winning the T20 too. Owing to some political disputes between India and Pakistan, apart from the confluence of broadcasting problems, the competition was halted. Recently, there had been some talks going on regarding bringing back the Afro-Asia Cup in 2023, probably as a T20 tournament, but that didn't materialize either. Former Africa Cricket Association chairman Sumod Damodar said they regret not working harder to bring back the Afro-Asia Cup earlier, but now they are "looking into it again. Damodar told (to Forbes): "Personally, I am very hurt that it (Afro-Asia Cup) didn’t happen. There was not adequate momentum through the ACA, but it is being looked at again. I think it was basically a lack of understanding and not buying into the concept. Our members are regretting it. It needed to be pushed by Africa." Now, a report in Forbes creates hope afresh, suggesting the competition may get revived. If that happens, we might get to see the likes of Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah in company with Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Afridi. Damodar, an optimistic fan, feels ICC Chairman Jay Shah and ACC head Mahinda Vallipuram might resurrect this thrilling event. Damodar said: "With Mahinda now on the ICC board and Jay Shah running the ICC, that could bring a bit more momentum to this cause. Both of them have always been proactive in trying to make this happen." Also Read | Top 5 Fights in IPL Cricket History that Created Headlines
