The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is preparing for changes within the senior men’s selection committee, but chairman Ajit Agarkar will remain at the helm. The former pacer has already accepted a contract extension until June 2026, a decision made before the start of the Indian Premier League 2025 season. Agarkar, who took charge in 2023, has presided over a successful period. Under his tenure, India lifted the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and earlier this year secured the ICC Champions Trophy. The team also reached the 2023 ODI World Cup final, finishing as runners-up. Alongside these triumphs, a generational shift unfolded. Veterans Ravichandran Ashwin, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli retired in the past nine months. With Shubman Gill as captain, India drew a five-match Test series in England. A board official told The Indian Express, “Under his tenure the Indian team had won titles and had seen transition (of the Tests and T20) too. The BCCI had extended his contract till June 2026, and he had accepted the offer a few months back." Read also: Why was Shreyas Iyer not selected in 2025 Asia Cup squad? Reports reveals shocking claims Selector reshuffle on the cards Although the board is satisfied with the committee of Agarkar, SS Das, Subroto Banerjee, Ajay Ratra, and S Sharath, a change is imminent. Sharath, who moved up from the junior panel in January 2023, is likely to be replaced at the annual general body meeting in September. There is no clarity yet on the future of Das and Banerjee, while Ratra completes his first year on the committee next month. The shake-up extends beyond men’s cricket. The BCCI will invite applications for both the senior women’s and junior men’s selection panels. Neetu David, chair of the women’s committee, is nearing the five-year cap alongside Arati Vaidya and Mithu Mukherjee, in line with board norms that restrict a selector’s tenure to five years.
