Delhi Capitals finished their IPL 2025 campaign at fifth position on the table with 15 points. They fell short of a playoff spot, which made most of their fans agitated. One of the biggest controversies was the fact that fast bowler T Natarajan was not present. The team, led by Axar Patel, began the season quite well. They had won 6 out of their initial 8 games and were such a strong candidate for a top two finish. But their performance declined miserably in the second half. They won just one more game and ended the season in fifth position. T Natarajan was purchased by Delhi Capitals for ₹10.75 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction. But to the surprise of all, he played only one game in the entire season. That raised questions from fans and experts alike - why wasn't such an expensive player offered more opportunities? According to him, Natarajan was not omitted but was suffering from an injury. Badani himself is a Tamil Nadu man and added that Natarajan was recovering and was unable to get match fitness back within time. The team did not want to gamble with his health. DC Coach Hemang Badani said: "Why would we spend ₹11 crore on a player & bench him? We bought him specifically for the middle & end overs. Unfortunately, Natarajan wasn’t fully fit after returning from injury - remained injured throughout the season, that’s why he didn’t play." Natarajan's injury issues have also taken a toll on his red-ball cricket career. He was a national hero when India won the historic Test series in Australia in 2021. However, since then, he hasn't played a single first-class match. Natarajan explained his knee injuries worsened because of the heavy load and he had to leave Test cricket behind. Although he still enjoys playing red-ball cricket, he is concentrating only on formats that are less demanding on his body.
