It was on Day 2 of the first Test against India in Chennai that Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was found chewing a rather strange thread attached to his helmet while he batted. By then, Bangladesh had lost four wickets and Shakib began his innings with a couple of boundaries. As he was set to face Indian bowlers, the commentators and fans wondered what he might be chewing on. The social media immediately became filled up with pictures of Shakib and different theories about the thread. Former Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik discussed Shakib's habit while commentating during the match. He found out about it from Tamim Iqbal, the former captain of Bangladesh. Karthik said that the string helps Shakib keep his head up and stops it from tilting. Shakib had vision issues before and visited an eye doctor in London. He was also seen biting his jersey during the Global T20 in Canada.
