Within months after winning the 2025 Indian Premier League for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Virat Kohli is back in the city; however, he is not playing at the RCB ground, M. Chinnaswamy. Virat Kohli is currently playing the 2025-26 Vijay Hazare Trophy and has confirmed his availability for the first three matches. Notably, all the elite group matches for Delhi have been scheduled in Bengaluru, but nothing for Chinnaswamy. Since the victory parade stampede post RCB win, the stadium has been brought under several security scrutinies. And this is the primary reason for Bengaluru not getting any matches. Matches have been scheduled in Allur, and the rest have been shifted to the Bengaluru Centre of Excellence grounds. Why is M. Chinnaswamy not hosting matches? M. Chinnaswamy Stadium has been dealing with security concerns from the Bengaluru police—the primary reason behind its inability to host matches. The Karnataka government has issued an inspection, and the inspection committee found out that the stadium has lapses and is not compatible to host the large crowd that might show up to watch the games. As per reports, the stadium has not yet implemented the crowd safety measures, which include new entry and exit gates, proper queuing zones, evacuation planning, parking management, and pedestrian flow. Earlier during the Ranji Trophy match against Railways, Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium witnessed how Kohli pulled in a large crowd in the stadium. And the government was not willing to take any risk at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. The trophy was hosted away from the public eye. It was thus a zero-risk zone for BCCI. Delhi not only has Virat Kohli but also Rishabh Pant as their captain, who too is a crowd puller given his international status. Thus, the matches were shifted from the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium to the BCCI CoE near Aerospace Park, as it offers tighter and easier security control. It will also give limited access to the fans and is a also a temporary solution till Chinnaswamy gets it full renovation.
