Pakistan fast bowler Naseem Shah is currently in the news over a tweet he posted on X (formerly Twitter) during the commencement of the Pakistan Super League 2026. The 23-year-old, who is part of Rawalpindi Gladiators, faced backlash over his remark and it has become a hot topic of discussion on the internet. The PSL 2026 kicked off on Thursday. No fans are allowed to witness matches during the premier T20 tournament as the country is facing an energy crisis. However, special arrangements are made by PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi for the VIPs including Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz. A clip of Maryam Nawaz visiting the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore before the opening ceremony was uploaded by PCB. She was welcomed by PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi and other officials. Apart from officials, Lahore Qalandars and Hyderabad Kingsmen players also visited her. Tweet Against VIP Treatment Sparks Debate In a reply to the video of Maryam Nawaz's visit to the stadium, Naseem Shah questioned the privileged treatment meted out to the CM despite fans being barred from entry. (@RayhamUnplugged) March 26, 2026 The fast bowler soon deleted his tweet but screenshots were spread quickly on social media and drew various comments. Some supported him and even called him an 'honest politician' while many others slammed him and urged him to apologise for his remark. However, the PCB or the player have yet to make a comment on the controversy. No action has been confirmed from the player's side as, by general standards, action cannot be taken against a player solely on such grounds without a serious disciplinary offense. Naseem Shah, who is considered as a key player for the PSL 2026 after he was bought by Rawalpindi Gladiators for a whopping PKR 8.65 crore in the auction, began his PSL journey with Quetta Gladiators in 2019 and was later instrumental in Islamabad United's triumph in 2024. To date, he has played 50 matches and claimed 50 wickets in the PSL, with an economy of 8.17. He has also bagged 2 PSL titles. It is noteworthy, that he also had an excellent stint in ILT20 2025/26 where he finished as the highest wicket-taker for Desert Vipers in their victorious campaign, picking up 12 wickets in eight games. He was also a part of Pakistan's T20 World Cup 2026 campaign, however, he only participated in one fixture. Naseem Shah is expected to return to the playing XI on March 28 against Peshawar Zalmi in Lahore.
