Former 1983 World Cup-winning spinner Balvinder Singh Sandhu has been annoyed with the BCCI pushing Indian seniors to almost every match to attract crowds. Notably, after Ajit Agarkar took the seat of chief selector, all players, irrespective of their class, were required to participate in all matches, domestic or international. Sandhu has a problem with this approach. Not only does he feel that it is a mere circus without big names, but he also feels that keeping the key players busy in other leagues makes them look like wounded soldiers in ICC tournaments. He recently wrote a column for Mid-Day, where he said, “The magnets are the stars — Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah. Without them, this circus is just a cheap mela. Why kill the goose that lays the golden egg? But the Board doesn’t see it. They win IPL seasons and bilateral scraps—and lose ICC trophies. A nation starves for glory while its best players limp into finals like wounded soldiers." Read also: Afghanistan Coach Hails Suryakumar Yadav’s India as Title Contenders BCCI controls players! Should let Bumrah speak There were days when players shared fitness updates on their social media, which has now been prohibited. Notably, Jasprit Bumrah has been in the cusp of attention due to his back issue and workload. Bumrah was trolled heavily for not being able to play all five matches. However, it was the Board's decision. Nobody knew Boom's perspective. Balvinder thinks that Bumrah should speak. Normally, it's the BCCI these days that decides what, when, and where players can speak. Balvinder has urged BCCI to let players speak for themselves. He further wrote, "Bumrah faced a storm for missing the recent Oval Test. He hasn’t told his side of the story. The BCCI, which controls when and where players can speak, must give him that chance. Till then, the grind continues. India’s best bowlers, batsmen, and ’keepers flogged like racehorses, patched up like machines."
