Cricket has seen numerous great friendships, and in Indian cricket, Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni reign supreme. Their friendship is as strong as it was on their playing days. With India entering its 78th year of Independence, that friendship assumes special meaning. Both Raina and Dhoni came out with a shocking announcement in the year 2020 by announcing their retirement from international cricket. 'Chinna' Raina and 'Thala' Dhoni were often referred to as the 'Chinna-Thala' duo. Dhoni had retired after the 2019 ODI World Cup semifinal against New Zealand. It was only a year later that Raina announced his retirement and joined Dhoni. Later, speaking to Dainik Jagran, Raina revealed that they decided to retire on August 15 because it was India's 73rd Independence Day. Their jersey numbers combined would come up to 73, so it was a fitting day for farewell. Raina said that: "We had already decided to retire on 15 August. Dhoni's jersey number is 7, my jersey number is 3. Both of them together make 73 and on 15 August 2020, India completed 73 years of independence. According to me, there could not have been a better day than that for retirement." Moreover, Suresh Raina lifted the ODI World Cup title in 2011; MS Dhoni won three ICC trophies in the impeccable captaincy tenure with Team India. Under his dream captaincy, Dhoni got himself mentioned in record books by winning the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007, followed by the ODI World Cup in 2011 and the Champions Trophy in 2013. He thus became the only skipper who has lifted the World Cup title in all formats of limited-overs cricket. Also Read | India's Glorious Cricket World Cup Victories: A Detailed Journey
