Overseas players are always the big attraction at an IPL auction. Cameron Green, the Aussie all-rounder, was no exception at the IPL 2026 mini-auction that took place in Abu Dhabi on December 16. He was the biggest attraction in the list of overseas imports. Cameron Green’s auction performance didn’t disappoint. Green’s name was mentioned in the very first set of batters. The bidding for Green started from the Mumbai Indians, and then the Rajasthan Royals and the Kolkata Knight Riders joined the bidding process. However, the Royals withdrew from the bidding, and then there was a tough competition between the Chennai Super Kings and the KKR. The bidding eventually ended at ₹25.2 crores, and Green was acquired by the KKR for IPL 2026. However, despite of being acquired for ₹25.2 crore, Cameron Green will not receive the entire amount. This has to do with a very clear IPL policy regarding how much a foreigner can earn. Why Cameron Green Will Not Receive the Full Amount of ₹25.2 Crore The IPL has a “maximum fee” regulation for overseas players. According to this regulation, an overseas player cannot have a higher income than the most he could earn in the previous mega auction cycle of the IPL. Cameron Green's highest IPL salary comes from IPL 2025 mega auction where he is acquired for a price of 18 crore INR. Although a player can be auctioned for a higher price in subsequent auctions, his final payment is limited by this maximum amount only. Therefore, though KKR bagged the services of Green in the deal of ₹25.2 crore, they will pay only ₹18 crore in the season of IPL 2026. The remaining sum is not received by the participant. It will become a part of the central revenue system in the IPL and will then be shared based on league rules between teams and the BCCI. In teams, bidding even higher is also important since it will prevent other franchises and retain skilled players. In the matter of the players, however, their pay remains restricted by the regulation issued by the league. Why Teams Still Bid Big for Green Despite the existing cap, the franchises were ready to go all out for Green. Fully recovered after missing the IPL 2025 mega auction due to a back injury, Green is known to provide a complete package. His skill sets include being able to bat at higher orders, possessing the ability to bowl fast-medium, and being a good fielder. It is clear that KKR believed that Green had the potential to influence matches positively and hence remained in the competition till the end. Although the figure reads ₹25.2 crore, the fact of the matter is that Cameron Green’s official IPL 2026 contract price shall remain the same: ₹18 crore.
