The Board of Cricket Council of India has initiated a great cause, “Donate Organs, Save Lives,” due to which players from India and England wore green armbands during the third ODI at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium on February 12. ICC Chairman Jay Shah leads the campaign, urging people to pledge and spread awareness. Captains Rohit Sharma and Jos Buttler signed placards to champion the cause of organ donation. The initiative, titled “Donate Organs, Save Lives,” aims to raise awareness about organ donation. Earlier, BCCI released a video on February 9 featuring prominent Indian cricketers like Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant, Arshdeep Singh, Washington Sundar, and Varun Chakravarthy in support of the noble cause by urging their followers to pledge for organ donation on social media. Jay Shah emphasized the significance of organ donation on his social media, stating that sport has the power to inspire and create a lasting impact. Organ donation rates in India are relatively low compared to other countries. In 2019, the rate was 0.65 per million, with kidney donations making up 75% of living organ donations. Women represent 65% of living organ donors. Through this campaign, the BCCI and ICC aim to change the narrative and encourage more people to consider the life-saving act of organ donation.
