The Indian all-rounder Shardul Thakur has been announced as the captain of the Mumbai team for the 2025 Syed Mushtaq Ali Tournament. Notably, the tournament will be starting on November 26. The defending champions will be facing Railways in the first match, followed by Vidharbha on November 30. In 2024 Mumbai won the tournament under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer. However, Shreyas is recovering from a spleen injury. There were rumors that Suryakumar Yadav might lead the team, given he is already leading the T20I side of the Indian Men's cricket team. Even the team has captaincy material like Ajinkya Rahane. Despite such choices, the team decided to go with Shardul as the keeper.
