How big was Sachin Tendulkar? India often gets lambasted for its hero-worshipping culture; however, the United Arab Emirates was nothing short of it when it came to Tendulkar, the God. One of the UAE officials whimsically announced that anyone from the country who can pick Tendulkar's wicket will be rewarded USD 1,000 as a prize. It was during the 2004 Asia Cup, and UAE did have the luck to have India in the same group. Well, rewarding a hefty price to the native players isn't unnatural in the country. Back in 1990, UAE Prime Minister Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan gifted Rolls Royce to each of Khalil Ismail Mubarak and Ali Thani Jumma for scoring goals in the 1990 FIFA World Cup in Sri Lanka. But a thousand dollars seemed way too hefty for just a wicket! And in Dambulla, the day came for the UAE Bowlers. UAE's captain Sultan Zarawani, earlier was blessed with Tendulkar's wicket as his maiden international wicket. But July 16, 2004 was Aseem Saeed's day if not the UAE's. Saeed bowled his fourth over, and Tendulkar tried to flick the ball, only managing an inside edge. the ball went to Fahad Usman at short mid-wicket, and Saeed's teammates mobbed him in celebration. It was the first match of the UAE, and it ended in a massive 116-run defeat. Rahul Dravid, who was awarded the man of the match, scored 104 runs off 93 balls, the base of India's 260 runs. The captain, Saurav Ganguly, added 56 runs to the board. Later Irfan Pathan took three wickets, and Lakshmipathy Balaji took two wickets, leaving UAE stranded at 36 runs for 5 wickets. Sachin Tendulkar himself took 3 wickets, while the other one was taken by Zaheer Khan, bundling UAE at 144 runs at the end of 35 overs. Notably, Saeed ended the day bowling 7 overs, giving 25 runs. He bowled 2 maidens, and Tendulkar's wicket was the sole wicket in his bag. Fun part is, he played against Sri Lanka in the next match, which eventually was his last international match! Presently 45, Saeed can actually keep his collar up, despite having just one international wicket, and that too of Tendulkar's.
