Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) might not get to play their home games at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season. Due to the unfortunate incident of a stampede that occurred on June 4, 2025, the venue remained under suspension. The situation before the stampede was of a felicitation of RCB for their title victory against Punjab Kings in IPL 2025. The joyous scenes in the stadium were turned to tragedy when a stampede broke out near one of the entry gates because of large crowds and poor management. More than 10 people are dead and over 50 are injured because of the stampede. As a result of the tragedy, the stadium was deemed unsafe to hold major events. The venue even lost its rights to host ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 matches. It seems like RCB might not play in their home venue this season too as the safety clearance is still pending. Reports reveal possible demotion of Samson Pune Likely to Host RCB's Home Matches Times of India has reported that the Maharashtra Cricket Association has come forward to offer MCA Pune Stadium as an alternative venue for RCB's home matches. The stadium, in Gahunje village of Pune district, has already hosted several IPL games and will be able to handle big crowds safely. MCA secretary Kamlesh Pisal confirmed that discussions with RCB are underway. He told TOI: "This arrangement is in discussion but not yet confirmed. They have a problem in Karnataka because of the stampede that happened. So, they are looking for another venue and we have offered them our stadium. There are a few technical aspects to be sorted out, but if all goes well, Pune could host RCB’s matches." If confirmed, that would be a massive change for RCB fans, who have supported their team at Chinnaswamy passionately for years. Pune could be RCB's temporary home for IPL 2026. Meanwhile, RCB has another issue, with captain Rajat Patidar already ruled out for four months with an injury. While he will likely be fit well before IPL 2026, any delay could cast a doubt over his availability. Presently, all IPL franchises are busy finalizing their retention lists ahead of the November 15 deadline. The auction for IPL 2026 is likely to be held in December 2025.
