Paul Rieffel has been a controversial on-field umpire during the India vs. England third Test at the Lord's Cricket Ground. Several former cricketers like Sunil Gavaskar and Anil Kumble have called out Reiffel's decisions, and now former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin echoed the same voice. He went a step ahead, saying that India can never win when Rieffel is officiating the match. Ashwin compared two incidents to show the dubiousness of Reiffel: one, when Joe Root survived an umpire's call off Mohammed Siraj, and then Shubman Gill gave out despite the ball clearly hitting the bat. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ash said, “Whenever India bowls, he always feels it’s not out. Whenever India bats, he always feels it’s out. If it’s not just against India but against all teams, then ICC has to look into it.” Recalling one of Reiffel's bizarre dismissals granted to Ashwin, he said, “I own a car, a sedan, which I can park through the gap between the bat and ball. It’s clear it was not out." He added, “My father was watching the match with me. And he told me, ‘Whenever Paul Reiffel comes, India will not win.’” Read also: Watch: Carse and Jadeja Get into Verbal Spat, Umpires Intervene England seals tight match at Lord's In a pulsating Lord’s Test, England edged out India by 22 runs in the narrowest-ever result at the venue.
