Virat Kohli is all geared up for a rare return to domestic one-day cricket, as he'll play the Vijay Hazare Trophy starting on December 24. This will be his first appearance in the tournament in almost 15 years. DDCA president Rohan Jaitley confirmed that Kohli has informed the association about his availability for the event. Delhi will begin their campaign against Andhra in Bengaluru. When Did Virat Kohli Last Play the Vijay Hazare Trophy? Kohli's last appearance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy came in February 2010 when he turned out for Delhi against Services. Since then, he has been a full-time member of the Indian team and never got the opportunity to participate in domestic 50-over cricket. Over time, he became one of the best ODI batters in the world, and his focus remained more on international matches. The 37-year-old Kohli still represents India in only the ODI format. He scored his 52nd ODI hundred in Ranchi in the series against South Africa sometime back. Though he has stopped playing T20Is following the 2024 T20 World Cup win and also retired from Test cricket this year, runs at the high level continue to flow from his bat. His return to domestic cricket will definitely ensure big crowds as fans hardly get to see him in state-level events. As many as six league matches will be played. Kohli's availability will give a strong boost to the side, and he will also be helpful for many young players in the squad. His participation in a certain number of games remains unknown as of now, but even one or two matches will make a big difference. Kohli is not the only senior Indian player likely to participate in the tournament. Rohit Sharma may also play for Mumbai. This after the BCCI decided that all contracted players must take part in domestic cricket unless they are injured or busy with the national team. Currently, Kohli and Rohit are featuring in the three-match ODI series against South Africa, which concludes on December 6. Kohli will, after the series, head back to the United Kingdom, where he has been mostly staying when not on national duty in India. He could return, though, ahead of India's ODI series against New Zealand, starting from January 11, 2026, to January 18, 2026. Depending on the schedule, Kohli may feature in a couple of Vijay Hazare Trophy games before rejoining the national fold. Kohli's Vijay Hazare Trophy Record Kohli has figured in only 12 matches in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He has scored 763 runs at an average of 69.36 with four centuries in the 50-over domestic event. His numbers show, even in a limited number of matches, how strong he has been in this format since the early days of his career.
