Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's future in ODI cricket is the most discussed topic in Indian cricket presently. It's reported that the apex cricketing body of India, the BCCI, would think about winding down both of them as it sets its sights on the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027. With the home series against Bangladesh in August being canceled, India's upcoming 50-over games will be during the tour of Australia from October 19-25. Whether Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be seen playing ODIs after that tour is not known yet. There is a notion being floated that both Rohit and Virat should play in a few India A games against Australia A in Kanpur on September 30, October 3, and October 5, while the senior team takes on West Indies in their inaugural Test in Ahmedabad. If Kohli does feature in those India A matches, it will be an unusual List A outing for him other than ODIs. The previous one was more than a decade back in the NKP Salve Challenger Trophy in Indore. The match, which took place in 2013, was between Delhi and India Blue, with Yuvraj Singh being the captain of India Blue. Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag, Rajat Bhatia, and Ashish Nehra were part of that Delhi team. India Blue scored 274, with Manish Pandey scoring 62 and Piyush Chawla chipping in a brief cameo. Parvinder Awana and Bhatia each took four wickets. In the run chase, Delhi found themselves at 46/4 before small partnerships raised hope. Kohli scored 23 from 28 balls before getting run out. Delhi lost all their wickets for 224, with Bhuvneshwar Kumar taking 4/39. Kohli is the lone active player from that Delhi XI now. Both of them have been on prolonged breaks since the IPL. Kohli has been working out in London, whereas Rohit returned to Mumbai recently. If they will be seen playing for India donning ODI jersey again after October is something that the BCCI will decide in the weeks to come.
