England white-ball captain Harry Brook has explained what compelled England to become more aggressive during the third Test against India at Lord's. The game witnessed enough fiery exchanges between both teams with tempers flaring both on and off the field. On Day 3, England openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett used time-wasting strategies deliberately to slow the game down, which infuriated Shubman Gill and the Indian team. This carried over into India's second innings when Ben Stokes and his men chose to play aggressively and challenge the Indian team's patience. Brook, in his address at the pre-match conference before the Manchester Test, indicated England always attempt to play in the spirit of the game. However, he cited one instance with Jasprit Bumrah, in which the Indian seamer bowled a blistering over attacking England's tailender Shoaib Bashir, as the turning point that got the hosts resorting to a more aggressive approach. While addressing the pre-match presser ahead of the Manchester Test, Harry Brook said: “We try to play in the spirit of the game as much as possible. We saw that over where Bumrah struck Bashir on the shoulder. That is when we decided to reassess the situation and have a go at India. It’s been quite enjoyable. Just like what we witnessed at Lord’s - 11 Indians against just 2 of us." England was compelled to bring in left-arm spinner Liam Dawson for the fourth Test at Old Trafford due to the injury. For India, the greater question has been Jasprit Bumrah's availability, as he was to feature in only three of the five Tests in the series to keep India from overloading him. Bumrah has already played two matches, but with India losing 1-2 and in need of a win to make the series afloat, Mohammed Siraj earlier confirmed that Bumrah will be available for the fourth Test at Manchester. India's team, on the other hand, is battling a few injuries. All-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out of the series after picking up a knee injury during training. Left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh will miss the fourth Test due to a bowling arm injury, and Akash Deep is running against time to get over a groin issue. To complement the weakened attack, 24-year-old pacer Anshul Kamboj has been included as cover and could make his Test debut. The fourth Test at Old Trafford, beginning July 23, now has added drama, as both sides are desperate for a win and emotions have already been running high after the blazing encounter at Lord's.
