The Indian cricket team have had their share of successes in the longest form of the game, Test cricket. Primarily a strong home team, they have had a number of incredible wins against some of the strongest teams to have ever played the game. India's first Test was against England at Lord's in June 1932, a match which they lost by 158 runs. It took them 20 years to get their first win, which came against England in the year 1952. Led by Vijay Hazare, India registered a win in the 5th match of a 5 match series, with 3 draws and one win for England. They levelled the series 1-1 in what was a momentous occasion for Indian cricket. Since then, India has established themselves as one of the strongest teams in Test cricket and registered a number of crushing victories. India's largest ever win by the margin of runs came against West Indies in 2018. India's Record-Breaking Victory against West Indies India registered their largest ever Test match victory when they took on West Indies in the first game of a 2-match series held in Rajkot in October 2018. They declared at 649/9 batting first, and a number of contributions came from the bat. Young Prithvi Shaw registered a spectacular maiden Test century on debut, whilst captain Virat Kohli chipped in with 139. Ravindra Jadeja contributed an excellent maiden century at Test level by scoring 100 not out, and Rishabh Pant provided quickfire support by scoring 92 runs. A mammoth total from the hosts put West Indies under immense pressure immediately on their turn to bat. Bowlers Complete a Dominant Victory West Indies could not stand up to India's bowlers and were bundled out for just 181 in their first innings. India enforced the follow-on and offered the tourists a chance to bat again. Visitors' could not raise their game for the second innings and were once again bundled out for 196 runs. This means India had recorded a comprehensive win by an innings and 272 runs, their largest winning margin in Test cricket to date. Ravichandran Ashwin took figures of 4/46 in the first innings and with Kuldeep Yadav also taking 5/132 in the second innings, the hosts dominated with ball in hand. Kieran Powell and Roston Chase were the only half-centurion for the tourists' in the second innings. The victory proved just how strong India are in their own conditions and the bowling attack fully complemented the opposition's poor batting. The win in Rajkot still remains India's largest winning margin in their Test history and is among their greatest Test match performances seven years on.
