Chennai Super Kings faced their fifth defeat of the IPL 2025 season on Friday, where they lost to Kolkata Knight Riders by eight wickets at Chepauk Stadium. After the team's lacklustre performance against Kolkata Knight Riders, Michael Clarke criticized the team's attitude and said that the team is "playing too safe". “They’re down on confidence, playing it too safe, CSK need to risk it all and go for broke,” Clarke said. Clarke also pointed out that the team did not show any intent throughout their innings. “The pitch was tough, sure. A bit of seam, some turn. But the way Chennai approached the game, there was no intent. It’s clear they’re low on confidence and just trying to survive, not win,” he added. Clarke believes CSK’s conservative approach is costing them matches. “Right now, they’re playing conservative cricket, just hoping to stay close instead of pushing for victory. But sometimes, you’ve got to throw the kitchen sink at it. Take the risk. That’s how you spark a turnaround," he said. He further added: "Confidence, good or bad, is contagious. When you’re winning, it lifts everyone. But when that losing feeling creeps in, it’s tough to shift,” he said. As the team struggles to regain form, Chawla suggested that fresh energy in the lineup could provide the momentum shift they desperately need. “Maybe it’s time to inject some fresh blood. Someone like Andre Siddarth, a promising middle-order bat, deserves a chance. We’ve seen plenty of Tripathi and Hooda, maybe it’s time for new faces to bring in that spark. Even one or two changes can shift the mood in a dressing room,” Chawla said during the same discussion. Chennai Super Kings, who are currently in the 9th spot with five losses and a win to their name, will return to action on April 14, where they will face Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Cricket Stadium.
