Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming hinted at potential changes in the playing XI ahead of their upcoming clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. While CSK started their IPL 2025 campaign with a commanding win over Mumbai Indians, Fleming suggested that the management is considering a few other options for the next match. As they prepare to take on RCB in their second game, Fleming addressed the media in a press conference, discussing possible lineup adjustments. When asked about potential changes in the playing XI, Fleming acknowledged that the team is evaluating different possibilities. “We’ve got a couple of other options we’re looking at,” he said. However, when questioned about the middle order, he said that CSK is not a team that makes frequent alterations unless necessary. “It’s only been one game, and one game we won, so we’re not a team that tinkers that much,” he stated. Fleming also provided an update on Matheesha Pathirana’s fitness, assuring that the Sri Lankan pacer is recovering well. “He is progressing nicely,” he added. ‘We don’t look at past performances’ CSK and RCB last faced off in IPL 2024, where RCB eliminated CSK and grabbed a playoff spot. However, Fleming downplayed the relevance of past encounters, highlighting how both teams are different in IPL 2025. “The RCB from last year, the CSK from last year are quite different. We don’t look at all into past performances. The competition is really even this year,” he said. When asked about RCB’s reliance on Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar, Fleming acknowledged their impact but pointed out that the team has other strengths as well. “Certainly, looking at their team, Kohli is a big part of it, but they’ve got other strengths as well. But they’re certainly two players—if we keep quiet, it helps to win,” he said. CSK will take on RCB at the Chepauk Stadium, where they have historically dominated the three-time finalists. Out of nine encounters at this venue, CSK has emerged victorious eight times, with RCB’s only win dating back to 2008. Since then, RCB has struggled to break CSK’s stronghold at their home ground.
