Cricket West Indies (CWI) has come up with a modern, data-driven scouting system aiming to improve talent identification across the Caribbean. This new system is expected to break the barriers of the traditional methods by focusing on more than just scorecards. By incorporating advanced data analytics, CWI aims to capture a deeper understanding of players' skills, tactical knowledge, and game awareness. The revamped scouting system involves a dedicated network of Senior Talent Managers, Territorial Talent Identifiers (TTIDs), and regional scouts. These professionals will work together to bring a structured and analytical approach to identifying future cricket stars. The West Indies Championship has been selected as the first major tournament to implement this new system, where performances will be closely monitored and evaluated. A New Era for Scouting and Player Development Two key figures have been appointed to lead this initiative. Jamal Smith (Male) and Ann Browne-John (Female) are the Senior Talent Managers responsible for overseeing player data and supporting analysts in making informed selection decisions. They are joined by six TTIDs assigned to various regions, including former cricketers like Ramnaresh Sarwan and Gibran Mohammed, who will help track talent across the Caribbean. In addition, four regional scouts will support the initiative by attending matches and training sessions to assess players' technical and physical abilities. By collecting real-time data and analyzing performances, this new system promises a fairer and more comprehensive talent identification process. Miles Bascombe, Director of Cricket, emphasized that the goal is to ensure no talent is overlooked, using both quantitative and qualitative data for a well-rounded approach. In a recent interview, he said, "Players in the region will now be seen and evaluated by multiple talent identification operatives, resulting in more information gathering, and better-balanced data on performances. With this accountability metric in place, our network of scouts ensures that no talent goes unnoticed."
