Cricket West Indies (CWI) has revealed their squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against England, The selectors made a single adjustment from the squad that recently toured Sri Lanka, bringing in Shimron Hetmyer in place of Alick Athanaze. The visitors had started the tour on a strong note, claiming victory in the first T20I. However, they eventually lost the T20I series 2-1. In the ODI series, they dropped the opening match but bounced back to secure a win in the third and final game. Shimron Hetmyer’s ODI was in December 2023. Hetmyer's return to the ODI squad stands out as the biggest highlight of the squad announcement. The hard-hitting left-hander, who last played a 50-over match against England in December, steps in for Alick Athanaze for the upcoming ODI series. With 53 ODIs under his belt, Hetmyer has scored 1,515 runs, averaging 32.23 with an impressive strike rate of 104.55. Meanwhile, star batter Nicholas Pooran remains absent from the squad. West Indies Head coach Darren Sammy expressed his excitement about the upcoming challenge against England, noting that the squad selection was made with a focus on building toward the 2027 ODI World Cup. As quoted by the Cricket West Indies' official website, Sammy said: "Playing against England always provides a new challenge and reignites a rivalry that the players and the people of the Caribbean are eager for. Somehow, we West Indies always find a way to raise our game when we face England."
