Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming has admitted that the five-time champions are struggling to find rhythm in IPL 2025, but insists that the remaining matches will still be valuable in the long run. With CSK struggling in the bottom half of the points table, Fleming said the team is beginning to look ahead to next season while also trying to finish the current campaign with purpose. Speaking in the post-match press conference after their loss to Mumbai Indians, Stephen Fleming said that they will look to end the tournament on a high note. “It is hard when you are playing below par to get enthusiastic about staying in the competition, but that is what we must do. Nothing will be wasted during this tournament, we will look back at other tournaments that have not gone our way and some of the work we have done at the back end of the tournaments that set us up for wins the following year,” Fleming said of the latest CSK's defeat. Fleming made it clear that even if CSK’s playoff hopes fade, the team won’t drop intensity and will look to play a good brand of cricket. “We’re realistic about the position that we’re in, but there will be no stone unturned looking for players for next year, combinations for next year and we’ll see it as an opportunity,” he said. He further added: “(It is) not a great opportunity because we want to be at the pointy end of the competition but if it works out that there is no chance of us getting through (to the playoffs), we’ll certainly make the most of it.” Also Read: ‘It’s a good sign for us’: Dhoni sees bright future in 17YO Ayush Mhatre ‘Just lacking a little bit of confidence’: Fleming opens up on CSK’s on-field struggles Fleming also shed light on CSK’s inconsistent performances this season, particularly pointing to the challenges in finding the right balance across departments. The Kiwi coach said the franchise is not being cautious in approach but simply low on confidence. “We’re not trying to play a conservative brand of cricket, we’re just lacking a little bit of confidence, and we’re just changing personnel for one reason or another,” Fleming said. Referring to the middle-order stand between Ravindra Jadeja and Shivam Dube in the last match, Fleming admitted more intent was needed. Jadeja and Dube joined hands in the 8th over of the match. However, the duo could not find a single boundary until the 12th over. Though the duo ended with half-centuries, the run-drought in the middle order did affect CSK's score. “They did feel that the ball was stopping which made it difficult, but we need to be more proactive all the way through. We’re just trying to find a tempo that’s going to help us compete and at the moment, we might get it right in one area, but other areas are letting us down. We’re plugging holes in one spot, but it’s still leaking in others and that can often be the case when you’re just a little bit down on fortune,” Fleming said. Fleming concluded by saying that the team will keep working hard until the last moment, but once the season is done, they will look to unearth new talents for the next season. "We’ll just keep plugging away trying to get it right and if not, as I said, we’ll turn our attention to unearthing players and trying to free out for the rest of the season.” CSK, who have two wins from eight matches, will return to action on April 25, where they will host Sunrisers Hyderabad at Chepauk Stadium.
