Bangladesh T20 captain Litton Das kind of spoke up about the call that ended up keeping his side away from the T20 World Cup 2026 in India. The wicketkeeper batter said, like plainly, that the squad was actually keen to go, but in the end the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) made the final move. And yeah, this thing caused a lot of talking around before the tournament. Bangladesh, as you know, refused to travel to India, saying safety worries are there. Even after the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) gave assurances, the BCB still stuck with its position. So Bangladesh didn’t turn up, and Scotland came in instead. Litton Das Reveals What Happened in BCB Meeting Speaking to Prothom Alo, Litton shared what went down during a meeting between players and senior BCB officials. Litton Das said: "We went there to participate (in a meeting with top BCB officials), to have tea. Our mindset was to have tea in an AC room. We were asked what we wanted. As players, what would we want? We don't want to fight. We would obviously want to play. They told us there was no safety in that country (India). We told them, we have played in Pakistan too. They used to stand outside the room with guns. What can be more dangerous than that? If we can play in Pakistan, why not India," His remarks, read like this, hint that a bunch of players did not exactly share the same anxiety that pushed the board into its decision. Earlier Response Was Different When the whole thing first kicked off in January, Litton stayed away from giving a straight, clear opinion. Back then, he said: "Are you sure we are going to play the World Cup? From my side, I am uncertain; everyone is uncertain. I think the whole of Bangladesh is uncertain at this moment. No answer. I understand what question you are going to ask. That is not safe for me. No answer," But now, months later, Litton has gone deeper, talking about what was discussed behind closed doors. He made his T20I debut in 2015 versus South Africa, and later took over wicketkeeping responsibilities quite regularly from 2017. One of the big chapters of his career arrived in the 2018 Asia Cup final vs India. He produced a sparkling century, and even though Bangladesh ended up losing, he still got the Player of the Match nod. Then in March 2020, he also posted the top individual ODI score by a Bangladesh batter, smashing 176 runs against Zimbabwe. Right now, his latest comments are bringing the skip decision back into focus, and it’s probably going to light up yet another round of debate among cricket followers worldwide.
